Outdoor family sessions are one of my favorite thing to photograph, and I don’t think that will ever change. I love the natural light and open space and a family that just gets to show up and be themselves that produces images I genuinely love every single time. Kids move more freely outside, parents relax more outside, and the energy of a session that happens in a beautiful natural setting just has a openess to it that is really hard to manufacture anywhere else.
Here’s something I’ve learned after years of photographing families: the ones who show up a little chaotic, with kids who won’t cooperate and a toddler who has already had a meltdown in the car — those sessions almost always produce the most beautiful, real, and memorable images. Because that is your family, and that chaos is actually just love in disguise.
