San Diego Engagement Session | Derek + Juliet | Mission Bay

February 2, 2016

For Derek and Juliet’s first date, they went slack lining at Mission Bay Park. Once it got dark, they sat on the grass, talking and enjoying one another’s company, until… the sprinklers went off and completely soaked them. Instead of putting a damper on their date, they finished the evening by running through the sprinklers and having a blast. It ended up being a perfect and memorable night.

Fast forward just a little over a year later, and Derek had his surprise proposal all planned out, back at Mission Bay Park, in honor of their first date and the time they had spent there together since. Juliet thought she was there to meet friends and watch a light show, but arrived to find a candle lit path, covered in rose petals, with a computer at the end. Derek was nowhere in sight, but on the computer was a video he had made about their relationship up to that point, and all of the reasons he wanted to marry her. As the video ended, Derek appeared, read a poem he had written Juliet, and got down on one knee. Of course Juliet said an emphatic yes, and as their friends left them alone with instructions to meet up soon at their engagement party, Derek and Juliet settled down on the grass to soak up the moment together, just like they had on their first date. And just like on their first date… the sprinklers went off and soaked them. However, this time it was not a coincidence – Derek had pulled some strings with the city parks and recreation department and convinced them to turn on the sprinklers just for him, in the middle of a drought no less!

As you can probably tell from their proposal story, Juliet and Derek are a blast. They love each other, and they love life. I could not have enjoyed our session more – playing in the park, walking along the water, pretending it was warm but actually freezing our butts off, outrunning waves, and finishing with monstrously huge ice cream cones at Belmont Park. I cannot wait for their wedding this summer!
