I met Krista, a wonderful family photographer based in Minnesota, when she joined my coaching program, Unbasic Creatives. She was part of my very first round, and I still look back so fondly on the incredible group of women who I had the privilege of working with and who had faith in me from the very beginning.
After our mastermind was over, she traveled to Boise so that she could shoot and learn alongside me in person. She also brought her family along for a vacation in some of Idaho’s best mountain spots, and I got to photograph them together!
This session had the potential to be extremely challenging: not only had this family had quite a long drive into town for photos, but the kids were running on a timezone two hours different than ours, and it ended up being one of the hottest days of the entire year. Summers here are hot, yes, but also they tend to be dry and are very tolerable by the river. However, we received what felt like our hottest and most humid day by far (it reminded me of my years in Pennsylvania and southeast Texas!), just in time for pictures. When I say that we were dripping, I am not exaggerating at all. I was absolutely shocked at how disgusting our weather was for my out of town visitors.
All in all, however, it was everything I could have hoped for. Yes, the weather was awful, but the river was cool and soothing, the kids held it together wonderfully, and I walked away with too many favorite images.

Wardrobe notes: The outfits in these photos belonged to my client, but I offer the same (or nearly the same) pieces in my own wardrobe! Mom’s and daughter’s dresses are both available from me in similar sizes, and I offer nearly the same pieces that these boys are wearing. Everyone who books a full session with me gets free access to my wardrobe, which includes dozens and dozens of gorgeous options for women, children, and babies. I’ve curated this intentionally over time so that busy mothers of all stages have flattering, stylish options that photograph beautifully, at no additional cost. I save families who use my wardrobe hours of time shopping and hundreds of dollars on unnecessary new clothes. After booking a session with me, clients can set up a private wardrobe appointment to try on clothing, and I also work with any pieces my clients own and want to use as well. This service is wonderful, and also always optional.
