Choosing a style for your engagement photos matters more than most people expect, because it shapes how the entire session feels… not just how it looks. When couples skip this step, they often default to something they’ve seen online, and while it might be beautiful, it doesn’t always feel like them. That disconnect shows up quickly in photos.
A good place to start is thinking about how you naturally spend time together. Are you more drawn to slow mornings at home, or do you feel most like yourselves outside, moving and exploring? Do you want something polished and elevated, or relaxed and a little undone? There isn’t a right answer here, but there is usually a clear one if you pay attention. Your session should reflect your real dynamic, not a version of yourselves you think you’re supposed to be.
Once that direction is clear, everything else gets easier. Location, wardrobe, and even the pace of the session start to fall into place. A dressy downtown setting calls for a different kind of energy than a quiet field at sunset or an in-home session on a weekend morning. When those elements are aligned, the session feels cohesive without trying too hard.
I’ll guide you through all of this so you’re not left guessing. My role is to help refine your vision and then create space for you to settle into it. When the vibe fits who you are, you don’t have to think about what to do or how to act. You just show up as yourselves, and that’s what makes the photos last.
