High energy kids are honestly some of my favorite clients to work with — and I mean that in the most genuine way. There is something about a kid who is just fully, completely alive and rambunctious that translates so beautifully on camera, and I think a lot of parents don’t realize that until they see their gallery.
The assumption I run into pretty often is that a successful family session requires kids who will sit still and look at the camera and smile on command — and I just want to completely let you off the hook on that, because that is not what I’m going for at all. What I’m really doing during a session is creating enough movement and enough genuine interaction that the real moments happen naturally, and then being ready for them when they do. Kids who are energetic and busy and fully themselves make that really easy, actually.
The running and the spinning and the “look what I can do” energy — that is not something to manage or apologize for. That is just your kid, right now, at this exact age, and that is exactly what is worth capturing before they grow out of it. These are the images you’ll look back on and remember so vividly who your child was at this season of life.
