Summer in Idaho is hot, and it can be challenging to be outdoors in the heat when you’re pregnant. I know this from firsthand experience! One of my four children was born at the beginning of September and I spent my whole third trimester struggling through the summertime. Worth it, but rough!
One of my favorite ways to keep pregnant mothers comfortable for summer photo sessions is to head to the river and wade in the cold water. The air around the river is always several degrees cooler anyway, and stepping into the chilly current is a perfect way to keep from overheating. Parts of the river aren’t safe for children, but this is one of my favorite areas because it’s shallow, slow, and easy to make sure that little ones can play safely.
If you’re expecting in the summertime, I highly recommend incorporating water into your session! Whether it’s the river, a pool, or driving to a lake, it’ll be gorgeous and so much more comfortable than bearing the heat.
Wardrobe notes: I styled this family’s outfits (which I love doing!). Mom and daughter are both wearing dresses from my client closet. Everyone who books a full session with me gets free access to my wardrobe, which includes dozens and dozens of gorgeous options for women, children, and babies. I’ve curated this intentionally over time so that busy mothers of all stages have flattering, stylish options that photograph beautifully, at no additional cost. I save families who use my wardrobe hours of time shopping and hundreds of dollars on unnecessary new clothes. After booking a session with me, clients can set up a private wardrobe appointment to try on clothing, and I also work with any pieces my clients own and want to use as well. This service is wonderful, and also always optional.
